 "Not worth your time" 2009-09-01
By Lychee
This phone is a piece of crap. I've had it since Christmas, and after Day 3 I figured something was wrong.

The touch screen is heat sensitive so god forbid you have it in your pocket and go to use it. It gets so confused. If the phone is warm in any way, any touch on the screen will register as hitting the bottom menu or the back button depending which screen you're at. It's extraordinarily frustrating. And, really, I don't want my phone to beep at me when it's done charging. Of course, I have to charge it often because it won't hold a microsecond of time. My previous phone could hold a charge for six days while this goes for three if I'm lucky and don't bother it. That backlight eats up battery like you wouldn't believe, and it loves to light up.

The sound on it is way to quiet even on full blast so I often miss calls even when it's right next to me or in my pocket or purse. Even the vibrate is too soft so I sometimes miss calls despite it being in my pocket.

Really, there are two things I like about it: The keyboard and the little hole in the corner where I can hang my dangly cell phone straps.

Not worth your time or anyone else's time. No wonder they pulled this junk off the shelf.

 "looks good, works bad" 2009-08-11
By A. Mellis
I purchased the Glyde as part of my Verizon plan, and at first was quite pleased with it. It has lots of features in a nice compact body, especially for a phone with a full QWERTY keypad. However, once starting to use the phone, I found it more and more frustrating. The features that it does have are difficult to use and the software that it runs is very badly designed.

My first Glyde died after about 6 months and Verizon replaced it with another. The new one, I've now had about another six months and at least once a day the touchscreen either locks up or always registers a "lower right-hand corner" touch, regardless of where I touch (or sometimes, even if I have no contact with the screen at all). Power-cycling the phone usually but not always temporarily halts this.

As of Oct 2008, Verizon halted all Glyde sales and pulled this from their stores for an unspecified "issue"; it has not been seen since.

The samsung glyde did have a gimmicky touchscreen at first, but with the BI29 software, this enhanced the touchscreen to make it as great as the iPhone. Also, if you buy this phone with the software update, then you will be able to take better pictures, videos, have better internet connection, and et higher quality music. I highly recommend this to someone who is a teenager, since I am one myself.

"Great product for the money" 2010-01-06
By Shop2Much
After weighing out the pros and cons of this player, I decided to give it a try and I have to say, I'm glad I did. I bought this for my 10yr old for Christmas who actually wanted an I-touch (that was not going to happen)so I started to research touchscreen players and came across this one. It has all the features I was looking for including some accessories which was an added bonus for a price I was willing to pay. After a couple hours of charging, I loaded music that I already had on my computer which was simple with the drag and drop method, then loaded the disk it came with to convert some videos, and I have to say that the software it came with is not very user friendly. After attempting several times to retrieve videos via this software, I had no luck. Fortunately YouTube has a converter that works great which is what I use to convert my videos to AVI format. My pictures were simple to add onto this player with no problems. The game that came on the player was a snake puzzle that I have yet to figure out but keeps you busy none the less. I am still trying to figure out how to load more games on and where to get them from and I hope this feature will work out good, but overall, I can't complain. I would purchase another if needed. Excellent player for the money.

 "Surprisingly good" 2010-01-04
By Pippa Lee (Honolulu, HI USA)
I wanted a personal player to watch music videos clips and after some research and based on the comments of other reviewers and the price, I chose this Pyrus Electronics (PE) music & video player. This device may not have the reputation of well-known name brands but it surprisingly performs quite well once you get the hang of it.

The manual seems to be a generic one and meant to be used with other PE media player models since it has instructions for a camera, a feature the uTronix 2 GB does not have. This poorly written instruction booklet is the source of unnecessary frustration. For the newbie like me (this is my first multimedia player), realizing the fact that the manual comes with no instruction on how to load music and videos to the player can be quite annoying. Here are a few things I had to find out on my own:

a) Though PE provides its own AVI converter software program in a mini CD, this program does not recognize the FLV format that's so common for YouTube and Google videos. Therefore, you must use another FLV to AVI converter program first. You may find some good converters that are free to download at the cnet website. Once you have converted your FLV video to AVI, you must now use PE's AVI converter program so that the video is sized correctly for the player.

b) When you're using PE's AVI converter, it's recommended to select "Normal" for the quality setting and "4:3" for the aspect ratio.

c) Once your video has been converted to the player's standards, you may now load it to the player. The player acts like a flash drive when you connect it to your computer with the USB cable. Your computer should recognize it as another removable disk and from there you can click, drag and drop your video files from your computer to the player.

d) When it comes to music, if you're using Windows Media Player command to copy to portable devices, you'll find out it will copy them into the "Record" folder in the player. Move the files out of the "Record" folder so that the player recognizes them as music files and appear in the play list.

Once I learned how to prepare my video clips and songs correctly, I haven't had any other problems with the player so far. The image is bright, the sound clear. The interface is easy to use. The touch screen responds well with the provided stylus. Just remember to tap once to select a song/video and tap again to start playing it. The FM radio works well though I had to set each channel manually. I haven't tried the e-book, games, and the recorder features yet. Another thing I like about this player is that it comes with an A/C charger so that I don't have to use my PC to recharge the battery.

Although loading music and videos on to this player is somewhat a roundabout process, I'm still satisfied with this device. It's lightweight, nice looking, and feels solid. The 2.8" LCD screen is bright and is big enough to watch video clips without squinting. If you go to Pro Ebiz website, you'll find a slightly better manual than the one the player came with. Also there are video instructions--although they're in German and they're for a different PE model, but still they may be useful as that model and the uTronix have some features in common.

 "My Wife Loves It" 2010-01-02
By James R. Bullard (California)
I bought this as a Christmas present for my wife. She loves it! It's better than I expected. It's easy to load music and videos onto and really fun to use. You do have to convert to CD music it MP3, but that's no big deal and there are plenty of free programs to do that. I think you would have to do this no matter what player you own.

The pictures are as sharp as you could hope for on a screen of this size. The built in FM radio is actually pretty good too. The only non five star thing is that the sound quality of the ear phones is good but not great.

Overall this is a wonderful device and I can't believe you get so much for so little.

pretty good mp4 player. download songs fast and easy. it holds the charge for a long time. the only cons i would say is that the video avi converter is not working for me or it takes a real long time....its been on 1% for forever now....anyway i would recommend this to anyone. the only game is slider which is boring. i havent tried the ebook yet but it comes with a sample as the lyrics of the sample music. Pretty good for the price!

"Cheap, complicated and video downloads are impossible" 2009-12-04
By Cynthia A. Hawkins
I bought this for my 10 year old daughter for Christmas. I decided to download somethings on it so she could play with it Christmas morning. That was good on my part because it was very difficult to figure out. I downloaded pictures ok but they went into every file, video, pictures and music. The same with the music. It went into every other file. The power on and off switch is a joke. It is so flimsy that I can't imagine it will last long. I never figured out how to download videos or record anything. After trying for an hour it died. I thought it was the battery so I charged it. After several hours it came back on but it wouldn't work at all. I know others have liked it but I sure didn't. However the sound is great. Pictures are kind of blurry. It gets an "F" rating in my book!

By C. Stenstrom (MA)
My daughter received the 16G player for Christmas, and we've both been extremely happy with this product. It's small, portable, and for a small speaker it's have very good sound quality. She can put it on the table and all her friends can dance along. I am not a computer guru so when I had problem figuring out how to download videos onto the player. I emailed customer service figuring it'd take weeks to hear back. It only took them a few hours and respond (on Christmas) and they have helped me with all my silly questions and gave me step by step instructions to get what I want. The customer service is best I have ever received for an electronic product. My daughter now has a player that plays all her music, her favorite videos, and holds pictures of her puppy. And it didn't cost me an arm and a leg.

 "Cool item" 2010-01-05
By IAA
Bought two of these mp4 players during Xmas. This one is pretty neat. Very small and light weight. The screen is 3" but seems smaller. It is wide screen. I guess that is why. Screen resolution is about 400*240. I converted my videos to the same resolution and they work very well. I found high resolution makes the screen darker, which proves the previous buyer's comments. The music function is pretty basic. I have not figured out how to make play list on windows media player and sync on it. However, the seller recommended to make different folders and put different songs in each folder to make play list. I was able to change the setting to play the songs in a folder only. That works pretty well for my purpose. It is actually better, in my opinion since now I can create as many "play lists" as I want.

I like the photos being displayed in Thumbnail format instead of file list. I also like the radio function that allows you to record. All in all, this is good product. I would recommend to anybody.

The only thing is that it does not look very durable. I was very afraid to drop it and break the screen. So far, knock on the wood, this has not happened yet.

This is the third one I have bought from this company. All are gifts for friends. Every gift recipient is happy with the gift which is why I kept buying. This is inexpensive, a lot of functions and people just love it. The first one was given out in Jun last year. The friend who got this still thanks me whenever we meet each other. This is something that people would remember you for. That is great. What else can make people thank you for 6 month? :)

This is a good mp3 player for the price. For under 50 bucks, I would definitely recommend it. If this is more than 50, I would say pay a little bit more and get something better. It does everything it says. But, the functions are still very basic. There are many things out there that can do a lot more. WIFI, Calendar, network steaming, etc.

But again, for 50 dollars or less, this is good media player.

The is the third time I bought this player. Last Christmas, I bought two to give my cousins. This Xmas, my other two cousins want those as well. So, I bought them again. They look and work a little differently than the two from last year, in a good way. It seems like it supports more video formats now. and the touch screen is better too. I think this is an upgraded version. I wonder if there is anyway to upgrade the two from last year to this as well. Is there any firmware upgrade available? I really like this version.

AT&T Service
This AT&T phone can handle high-speed data connectivity via AT&T's 3G mobile broadband data network, which is available in most major metropolitan areas. The AT&T 3G network uses the tri-band UMTS/HSDPA 850/1900/2100 MHz network, which provides download speeds ranging from 700 Kbps to 1.7 Mbps, and upload speeds ranging from 500 Kbps to 1.2 Mbps. This makes it possible to enjoy a variety of feature-rich wireless multimedia services, and it gives you the advantage of offering simultaneous voice and data services.

In areas where the 3G network is not available, you'll continue to receive service on the AT&T EDGE network, which offers availability in more than 13,000 US cities and along some 40,000 miles of major highways. Providing average data speeds between 75-135Kbps, it's fast enough to support a wide range of advanced data services, including video and music clips, full picture and video messaging, high-speed color Internet access, and email on the go. You'll also enjoy quad-band GSM connectivity, which allows you to make calls in more than 190 countries and access data applications in the more than 135 countries where AT&T offers international data roaming.

With 3G connectivity, you'll be able to access AT&T's Video Share service, which enables you to send a live, one-way video stream to another compatible phone during a standard voice call. The service also allows you to switch the direction of the video stream during the same phone call. (Customers must be in an area served by the company's 3G network and have a Video Share-enabled phone.) A majority of users in the architecture, engineering and construction industries rated the ability to share live video through Video Share highly, according to research commissioned by AT&T. Video Share lets you see progress on a job site or review the day's work without having to drive from an office or other site to do so.

You can take advantage of the AT&T Navigator GPS software and service, a full-featured premium navigation application that includes audible turn-by-turn directions, real-time traffic updates and re-routing options, and 3D moving maps (additional charges applicable). AT&T Navigator offers several other features to make your commute more enjoyable and reliable, including mobile access to Yellowpages.com. Additionally, AT&T Navigator is the only mobile phone-based GPS service that provides integrated speech recognition for address entry and points of interest search.

With 3G connectivity, you'll be able to access AT&T's Cellular Video (CV) service and the Internet while on the go. Cellular Video features content from CNN, The Weather Channel, iFilm, Comedy Central and exclusive premium content from HBO and much more. And you get access to AT&T Mobile Music, which enables you to buy tracks while on the, access the Napster and eMusic subscription music services, stream music video, discover what's playing with Music ID song-recognition software, and find out what's hot with The Buzz music news portal. (A MEdia Max subscription bundle is recommended for accessing AT&T's Internet, video, and music services.)

It's also pre-loaded with AT&T's Mobile Banking application, which is compatible with accounts from banks including Wachovia, SunTrust, Synovus, and BancorpSouth. Mobile Banking from AT&T affords you the flexibility to stay on top of your banking needs while you're on the move, enabling you to check your account balance, securely transfer funds between your eligible accounts, view and pay bills, and review your transaction history. AT&T customers pay no additional fee to access mobile banking and, because the application resides on the handset, the service is optimized to reduce the number of new page views necessary to complete a transaction. Minimal data usage charges apply and vary based on individual use.

"Charger port defective design easily damaged" 2010-01-08
By Anon
I bought the Samsung Epix i907 phone and it worked ok for about 6 months. The charger port started having a loose connection and wouldnt stay connected unless I hold it and keep pressing hard on it. If I leave it it would get disconnected. I sent it for repair and Samsung promptly returned it saying it is BER(beyond economical repair) and also voided the warranty. I used the phone carefully and havent caused any harm. Now it is my word against Samsung. I have always had Samsung phones and have never had problems. This is the first phone I ever sent for repair. I think there is a fundamental design flaw in the charger cable as they shortened the connector which I think causes easy damage to the port. I have also seen many other people complain about the same charging port problem on the internet. I am now stuck with a 2 year AT&T contract and no phone after paying lot of money for it. Guess I need to move to Nokia phones from now on. Samsung Epix is a bad phone.

 "Avoid Windows Mobile." 2009-10-10
By S. Sanders (chico, ca United States)
This phone does have lots of features and bells and whistles, but (mainly due to Windows I suspect) it does not work very well as a phone. It's nice to easily run multiple apps at once, but when the phone rings you have to wait for a windows program to gain focus and process your input (pressing of the green button to answer the call), and many many times the phone could not manage all these tasks before the call was missed. I am one of those old fashioned geezers who wants my phone to work well as a phone, with the other things as niceties, and having it work this badly at phone calls is a dealbreaker. My company probably wanted windows mobile because of exchange support, but when I travel for work I have a laptop, so who cares? I don't need this big brick. Any phone that can do basic web browsing and run Google Maps AND be solid at being a phone is all I really need, and this thing doesn't measure up - the one I use instead is half the size, and takes much better pictures too. Anyway, this phone is already old news I guess by the time I got around to writing this, but I'm pretty sure Windows Mobile still sucks on any phone.

 "Please avoid" 2009-09-19
By TeariNiTuP
This is without a doubt the worst phone I've used in the eight years I've been using cell phones and I've also owned at least a dozen. Its slow and bulky, the batterey doesnt last long at all and the paint on the keys started coming off after 4 months. I text a lot, but I always have and that problem never happened before. My phone now freezes randomly when recieving text messages and it will delete the message that it froze on so I have to guess who may have texted me and ask them...god knows what opportunities I've missed out on. Please don't ever buy this phone, even if its only a $1 as owning it will shorten your life and hurt your relationships. This is a case of "don't judge a book by its cover." I'm sure microsofts flawed software is also at fault, but thats to be expected as they are microsoft and it wasn't such an issue on my original blackjack. Anyways, I highly reccomend you dont buy this phone, you will regret it if you do. It gets a one star review because it powers on.

"Good phone, better battery would be nice" 2009-08-20
By R. Poulton
Got this because work needed email on the phone and I wanted to sync with my outlook. Didn't want an iphone nor a blackberry. Had bad experiences with HTC and dropped calls.

Call quality is almost that of a Moto phone, and truly shy of land lines. I loved my moto phone but they didn't make a touch screen windows phone when I purchased this. I also wanted GPS so I coudl use the TomTom software instead of the horrible ATT nagivator. IN 10 minutes of playing around I had the GPS working and my contacts loaded.

It's been great since. My ONLY issue is battery life. It's horrible. I keep it plugged in all the time for the odd call I have away from my desk. It reminds me of the early 90's phones with 90 minute talk times.

"I Chose this over the iPhone and Blackberry" 2009-08-12
By Brian Edmondson (Tulsa, OK)
Yes, I chose this phone over both the iPhone and the Blackberry. I am familiar with the iPhone format since I own an iPod Touch and I've messed around with other peoples' Blackberries at work. Here are the advantages and disadvantages of each.

Samsung Epix Advantages:

- Runs Office Mobile. I find this extremely useful.

- I really like the mouse, touch screen and the stylus.

- Great phone with good quality sound.

- You can view videos from more sites than just You Tube.

- You can take decent video and photos.

- I love the keyboard. It works much better than the keyboard on my iPod Touch.

- The battery lasts pretty well. It will go at least a day if I am yakking constantly or 2-3 days if I am not.

Samsung Epix Disadvantages:

- Music and video quality are not as good as the iPhone. I don't even bother keeping music on my Epix.

- You need a special adaptor to plug in a normal set of headphones.

- I do run into syncing problems that I generally have to search the Internet extensively to solve. I eventually can fix them but it is time consuming. I have never had syncing problems with my iPod Touch and I don't know anyone who has had syncing problems with their iPhone.

iPhone Advantages:

- Great music and video quality.

- Tons of apps available.

- Great interface.

iPhone Dis-advantages:

- Can't take video

- No apps that even approach the usfulness of Office Mobile

- Cannot sync Notes in Microsoft Outlook.

Blackberry Disadvantages:

- I did not like the mouse on the Blackberry.

- Most people I know complain about the quality of the phone on the Blackberry.

- I did not like the interface as much.

"Loved it at first, now not so impressed." 2009-12-14
By Laubamabar (Chicago, IL)
I received the Eternity in late August with a new AT&T plan, and I really liked the phone at first. Obviously, the touch screen is a lot of fun, and it's just generally a fun phone. However, after four months of use, its flaws are showing through. I don't use my phone nearly as much as other people my age - I don't connect to the Internet and only send a handfuls of texts a month; I use it for calls and as an alarm clock. But I like pretty phones (especially ones that only cost a cent). I'll start out with the pros first:

~ It's a sexy phone.

~ It's lightweight but solid, and it feels great in your hand, even with a silicone case over it.

~ I really like how customizable it is - you can choose the font, the widget icons, and the transition effects and such.

~ I actually like the ringtones and sounds that come with the phone. They're not obnoxious, and they're pretty nice to use as alarm tones, too.

~ As expected, the touchscreen makes the phone really easy to navigate. The tactile feedback is really nice, too.

~ It holds reception fairly well - better than the boyfriend's Sony Ericsson w518. The call quality is good, too, much better than the Motorola SLVR I was using before (and about comparable with reception).

~ Games are a lot more fun with the touchscreen.

~ The photo quality is really nice for a cell phone, and you can tilt the phone to scroll through your photos quickly.

Now on to the cons (aside from all the AT&T junkware others have mentioned):

~ The battery life could be better. I have to charge it every three or four days with barely any use.

~ After changing the order of the widgets, they go back to the default after a while.

~ It has a difficult time differentiating between MP3 ringtones and full songs. I can't use half my ringtones (self-made) as such because the phone files them automatically as songs.

~ Text messaging is a pain in the butt. Even though I calibrated the screen, my meaaages end up ;ooking lkke rbis. Deetkng jalf your mwsaafw isn;t fun (translation: my messages end up looking like this. Deleting half your message isn't fun).

~ The screen gets very warm when you're on the phone for more than a few minutes, which can mess up makeup.

~ In general the touch screen could be more intuitive. The screen doesn't always flip right away when I turn the phone, and it doesn't always know the difference between scrolling and selecting.

~ My alarms reset - when I turn the phone off? When it dies? At random? I haven't figured that out yet, but it's a problem when I put the volume up to 7 and I don't wake up because it magicked itself down to 1.

~ The screen randomly decides to stay illuminated until I turn the phone off. Otherwise, it will stay on for hours. I don't know if anyone else has this problem.

For making calls, it's a really nice phone, and I'm happy with the way it's performing in that realm. It's an improvement over my old SLVR in a lot of ways. The problems with the touch screen and its little quirks are starting to get old, though, and I may find myself replacing it after a year instead of putting up with it until it totally dies just because it gets on my nerves.

 "not worth the price" 2009-11-05

After 5 months trying to figure out how to do this and that (no written manual) and settings not holding, I opted for an LG Xenon and first of all, it has a user guide....written....what a concept! It's very easy to navigate to hither and yon and the settings stay as you set them! Removing the sim card from the Samsung was difficult, just like most everything else with this phone. Installing them into the LG was eeeeeasy and the battery charged up fully in less than 2 hours. The LG has an onscreen set up guide that makes things a piece of cake. The Samsung had to be taken twice to the service provider to get little pieces set up and voice mail was never possible for me. Frequently, when the touch screen was used, something not even close was activated. Personally, I would never buy another Samsung, and never recommend it to anyone else.

"Buy it if you need an mp3 player" 2009-10-22

I got this cell phone as an upgrade over my old Motorola KRZR which was very user friendly. The primary purpose of a cellphone is to be able to talk and listen and this is where Samsung Eternity fails big time. I am having a hard time in talking to people as they always complain about poor voice volume which I never faced with my old cellphone. The other big thing that I don't like about this model is the hold on and off key's location. To turn on or off the screen one has to hold the cellphone in a really weird grip and it can be very distracting if you are in a car and wants to make a call. Also the battery dies out really fast, part of the reason is that sometimes the screen does not turn off in the idle mode by itself. The only good thing about this cellphone is its music player so if you want a new mp3 player go buy it. In my opinion this cellphone fails in serving its most important function and is not user friendly as well.

"Some Smart Phone features at a lower cost...." 2009-10-21

I purchased the Samsung Eternity in the Spring of 2009, and have been very happy with it.

PROS:

3G speed web browsing is FAST.

Above average battery life. (5 hour talk time)

Screen is bright and clear.

Can handle up to an 8GB micro card installed.

Full AT&T music MP3 player.

Can be connected to a PC via BLUETOOTH or USB to add pictures, music, or bring internet to a PC.

Can access YAHOO MAIL, HOTMAIL, AOL MAIL, EARTHLINK, without ANY extra PDA plan.

CONS:

Phone call quality is fair, and has low volume.

The touch screen can drive you crazy sometimes. Its not sensitive enough.

Ringtones must be limited to 300k. (At&T's fault)

There is no voice dialing feature on this phone.

AT&T has poor coverage for both, cell, and 3G service.

I've found the back battery door scratches easy, even with a protective cover on it.

Overall, a good phone. Good feature set. Sort of the poor man's iPhone. I highly recommend purchasing the unlimited data, and text message plan for this phone.
